Porsche 911

Porsche 911 Carrera

From Car Magazine 1997:

“... the new, water-cooled Carrera with all the pluses and none of the minuses. An institution lives on”

Our choice “The new one. It’s a belter, all that a late 90’s 911 should be. The sensible supercar makes more sense than ever”

We include this description because people have lost touch with the fact these cars when released were so highly rated and since have ended somewhat maligned, mostly it seems because the headlights were the same as on the cheaper Boxster

But prices have clearly bottomed and that in our view is because the new 911’s have become so sanitised and overly capable that unless you are driving them at the limit, they lose some of the core DNA that makes 911’s 911’s.

The 996 however are now coming into their own as they are small, tactile, exciting at normal speeds yet refined and more usable than earlier 911’s

We feel 996 are an outstanding collector proposition given earlier 993’s are now mostly around $150,000 now for a manual and 997’s are rapidly going through $100,000 so currently priced from $50,000-$60,000, especially for manual examples is a real bargain

Priced when new @ $184,200

This Example

There are three factors that determine the desirability of 911’s and this example ticks all three boxes:

  1. Originality - down to the hero colour original paint and so desirable amber turn signs
  2. Manual - collector pricing will always prefer manuals
  3. Full-Service History - low kms with comprehensive stamped service books
In addition, it has some very rare and highly desirable options including the full leather dash which was a frighteningly expensive option when new and the spoke sports steering wheel which combined with GT3 OEM console delete makes the cabin feel contemporary and high-end.
Air works, windows work, roof works - everything works

As a current investment or daily driver, manual 996 surely must offer the best of all worlds being a true driving experience matched to a reasonable entry price - for now.

This example does have an updated infotainment system but the original radio is available if required. Otherwise, the colour is right, the condition is excellent and with all books, two keys it is a rare entry-level 911 opportunity. Inspection is highly recommended to appreciate the quality of this clean original example
