Porsche 928GTS - SOLD @ $88,000
From Car Magazine 1993 - For: “Sheer strength” Sum up: “fully honed”
Refusing to bow out quietly, the Porsche 928’s ultimate incarnation, the 928 GTS was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1991
- A 5.4 litre V8 producing 345hp,
- Porsche Sperrdifferential (PSD) limited-slip differential- similar in design to the unit found on the 959,
- “Big Black Brembos”,
- suspension borrowed from the S4 giving the car near perfect 50/50 weight distribution,
- transaxle design legend, Harm Lagaay, introduced muscular rear wheel arches,
- wider alloys, a 911-esque rear reflector fill panel and a colour-coded ‘ironing board’ spoiler the GTS was Porsche’s supercar for the road.
In GTS form, the 928 was produced until 1995. Just 192 cars were believed to be produced in right-hand drive and Porsche has not made anything like it since so today, this “last of” and ultimate expression of Porsche’s Grand Touring capabilities is especially collectable.
This Example
Porsche 928 are maybe one model where the vast price range is most clearly appropriate and certainly an absolute case of where buying the best will almost certainly end up being the cheapest - this example is in outstanding original condition and a rare opportunity to buy a factory RHD GTS
There are three factors that determine desirability of 928’s and this example ticks all three boxes:
- Originality - original paint, and interior especially is exceptional
- Automatic - the ultimate German “‘muscle car” is best suited to the excellent smooth auto transmission for the ultimate GT supercar
- Comprehensive Service History - low documented kms with benefit of recent refurbishment with Buchanan Motors, maybe Australia’s most renowned specialist which details no less than 13 pages of notes on serviced items and commentary
This example could easily be used as a daily driver but also represents a rare opportunity to invest in what surely is one of Porsche’s most iconic and rare models, for not much more than entry level 911 pricing
Original down to the Blaupunkt stereo, the interior is outstanding, the exterior the same and the mechanicals fully refreshed - the only non-original items being a dealer fitted Uve Gumbella dual exhaust and aluminum finish gear knob
